Starmer in ‘serious’ situation amid Mandelson scandal, says Gordon Brown
Former Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown has said that Sir Keir Starmer is in a ‘serious’ situation due to the fallout from his appointment of Peter Mandelson as US ambassador.
But Mr Brown said he remained convinced that Sir Keir was ‘a man of integrity’, even while admitting he hadn’t yet done enough to tackle corruption in public life.
In response, the government said it had ‘already begun urgent work on how we can do more’.
