Bucharest receives 22 new electric trolleybuses
According to Romania Insider, the public transport operator Societatea de Transport București (STB) next plans to extensively test the vehicles, before putting them through individual acceptance procedures.Yutong has been selected to provide the new trolleybuses, which are scheduled to enter passenger service on line 86 in the spring. The city administration of the Romanian capital has previously purchased 100 battery buses from Turkish manufacturer Karsan.The Yutong U12 trolleybus models are 12 metres long, and can carry up to 93 passengers. They also feature comfort features including air conditioning, passenger information monitors, wheelchair access ramps, and tinted windows designed to help maintain a comfortable interior temperature. The entire order is priced at 70.4 million RON (approximately 13.8 million euros), which were fully funded through the EU’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

The city also has already announced plans to purchase a further 100 trolleybuses. According to Romania Insider, this contract “is valued at EUR 73.8 million, with EUR 52 million coming from non-reimbursable EU funds.” While the city has not specified where the charging infrastructure will be installed, the buses will operate from the Bucureștii Noi depot.romania-insider.com, pmb.ro (in Romanian)
