Westwell lands 60 electric truck order from Westports Malaysia

The vehicle, called E-Truck, is powered by a 282 kWh battery and is designed for an operating range of up to 150 kilometres in terminal duty cycles. Energy supply will be supported by automated battery-swapping stations capable of completing a swap in around five minutes, reducing vehicle downtime. Westwell will also provide its charging scheduling and fleet management systems, as well as localised maintenance services, spare parts support and system upgrades across the vehicles’ lifecycle. The electric trucks are designed specifically for terminal operations. According to the companies, the new order aims to support Westports’ transition towards a lower-carbon terminal operation while improving fleet utilisation and operational efficiency.Westwell and Westports have been working together since 2022. The new order for 60 electric trucks represents the largest single deployment of Westwell’s E-Truck platform at the terminal to date and builds on previous cooperation in automation and energy systems.“The deployment of 60 E-Trucks and smart energy solutions will significantly enhance the terminal’s operational efficiency while reducing our carbon emission intensity,” said Datuk Ruben Emir Gnanalingam, Executive Chairman of Westports. He added that the project supports the ambition of a fully electrified expanded container terminal.Kenny Tan, Founder and Chairman of Westwell, stated: “We are committed to bringing cutting-edge innovative technologies to port operations, with artificial intelligence and new energy as our core technologies, fully supporting the intelligent and green transformation of ports.”westwell-lab.com
