More than half of voters want to see Sir Keir Starmer ousted as Labour leader, a new poll suggests, in a fresh blow to the beleaguered Prime Minister. Most tipped Andy Burnham as their preferred candidate to replace Sir Keir, just days after Labour’s leader blocked the Manchester mayor from running as an MP – and potentially challenging him for the keys to No 10.The polling, carried out by BMG Research for The i Paper, comes amid dismal ratings for the Prime Minister’s performance.Voters have given Sir Keir a record negative net satisfaction score of -49, making him the most unpopular British leader in history – and 51 per cent said he should go.While 24 per cent of voters said they would want Mr Burnham to replace Sir Keir, a greater number said they were undecided, and more than a quarter said they would not want any of the names listed to take over –revealing a deep malaise over Labour’s performance.Mr Burnham is the only leadership candidate with a net positive perception score, followed by Health Secretary Wes Streeting and Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood. More than half of voters want to see Sir Keir ousted as Labour leader, a new poll suggests Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham is the favourite to replace Sir Keir. Burnham is the only leadership candidate with a net positive perception scoreJust 4 per cent would back Mr Streeting and Angela Rayner to replace Sir Keir. As the only Labour politician with a net positive favorability score, Mr Burnham is ‘an outlier in a party struggling with its image’, BMG pollster Jack Curry said.He added: ‘While this does not amount to a clamour for Burnham, it indicates a public increasingly unsure that Starmer can turn things around, and increasingly willing to look outside Westminster for someone who might.’Mr Burnham threw his hat in the ring last week to stand in the by-election on February 26 after the disgraced Labour MP Andrew Gwynne quit following reports he had sent offensive WhatsApp messages. But Sir Keir blocked him from running – claiming it would lead to a costly election to replace the Manchester mayor – to stave off a potential attempt by the so-called ‘King of the North’ to challenge him for the leadership.
