Bar Flor Review | “Who Needs Spain When You’ve Got Pinxtos in Belgravia”
It’s the fun new wine bar from the Wildflowers teamBilled as ‘a little looser, a little louder’ sibling, pinxtos wine bar Bar Flor sits above the much-loved Wildflowers restaurant in Newson’s Yard. It’s headed up by Wildflowers’ chef Aaron Potter and interior stylist Laura Hart, who have taken influence from their favourite parts of Spain to form the menu. Laura and the team have transformed the upstairs area into an intimate and relaxed space, with dimmed lighting, low ceiling and long centre bar topped with a few of the tapas dishes on the menu. You have a front row view of the chef knocking up the pinxtos from the bar, which is always helpful when deciding what to have next. Eat ThisBar Flor’s menu is split into half pintxos and half tapas dishes, and you could work your way through most of it while enjoying a bottle of wine. The pintxos selection features classic flavour combos, all of which are very moreish. We had all four, even going in for a second round of the jamon rillettes with guindilla and Cantabrian anchovy with shallot and salted butter because they were that good. Other menu highlights were the confit tuna, white bean and red onion salad, which was super light and fresh, and the gambas al ajillo – really tasty, although we’re not sure we would recommend ordering if you’re on a first date due to the sheer amount of garlic. Drink ThisThe drinks offering at Bar Flor is made up of a curated list of European wines, along with Basque ciders, vermouths and sherries. As well as the vinos on the list, they have their house wines by the glass at a very reasonable price. If you’re more of a cocktail drinker, then you should try their take on the Adonis, a warming mix of Manzanilla sherry, Cocchi Torino and orange bitters. Why Go The cosy atmosphere and well-curated menu at Bar Flor make it a fantastic spot for a date night. And if you’re already dining at Wildflowers, you should defo allow some time to pop upstairs for a pre-drink or nightcap.
