It is Derry versus Kerry as Glenullin and An Ghaeltacht clash in the final of the All-Ireland Club Intermediate Football Championship at Croke Park this afternoon. The champions of Ulster and Munster boost fine records in this competition with the trophy heading north eight times since its inception in 2004 while Munster have won the Intermediate crown nine times. Rathmore were the most recent winners from Kerry, beating Galbally in 2023, while Steelstown were champions a year before, although Ballinderry were extremely unfortunate in last year’s decider against Crossmolina. With only eight days between the semi-final and today’s trip to HQ, both teams will be hoping for a clean bill of health before throw-in. Glenullin scored a 5-8 to 2-8 win over Roscommon and Connacht champions Strokestown in Ballyshannon last Saturday. They’ll look to former Derry and Irish League star Eoin Bradley to provide the inspiration and experience at 42 years of age. In the An Ghaeltacht team, former Cork dual star Aidan Walsh lifted the Sam Maguire with the Rebels in 2010, but now plays his club football in the heart of west Kerry although current All-Star Brian Ó Beaglaoich is major injury doubt for today’s game. An Ghaeltacht needed a last-gasp two-pointer from Éanna Ó Conchúir to see off Sallins of Kildare in extra-time in Páirc Úi Chaoimh last Saturday and they’ll be hoping there’s plenty left in the tank as they bid for All-Ireland glory this afternoon.
