Ireland weather: 'Storm risk' this weekend amid wind warning for multiple counties
There is a "storm risk" this weekend, as the weather continues to be influenced by Storm Goretti.Met Eireann has issued a status yellow warning for wind, as the impacts of the storm continue to across much of Northern Europe. On Sunday, January 11, the Yellow Wind Warning will come into play for Clare, Kerry, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo. Possible impacts include loose objects being moved by the wind, fallen trees, and wave overtopping alongside difficult travel conditions.Alongside this warning from the national meteorological service, Weather Alerts Ireland has predicted that there might be a risk of a storm for Ireland on the same day. However, there is still some uncertainty. In a post, they said: "The models are forecasting a storm to push close to Ireland on Sunday! This has been forecast for the past few days on most model runs!"There is still uncertainty on exact path and depth of the storm but the models are forecasting it close to the west of Ireland. The morning ECMWF and the latest Harmonie models have the storm impacting Ireland while the latest 06Z ECMWF, UKMO, GFS and ARPEGE have the system moving just of the west coast. Still plenty of time to change so watch this space!"Cathal Nolan of Ireland's Weather Channel added that rainy and blustery conditions have shown up on his weather charts too. "We've areas of low pressure pushing in cloud and rain will build as we go through the afternoon and evening. Winds will strengthen and that sets us up for quite a wild day for some places on Sunday," he said ina new forecast."Some strong winds expected right the way across the country but especially so along the west coast from Kerry, right the way up to Donegal. Gale force winds here and the risk potentially of some weather warnings into the evening time as this particular suite of strong winds pushes into parts of Connemara, into parts in Mayo and eventually up into Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal as well.""So we expect to see strong winds on Sunday afternoon and evening accompanied by some pretty heavy rain as well and that sets us up for a very unsettled next week in general."Alan Reilly of Carlow Weather said that there is a change the yellow warning will be upgraded. He predicted: "Early warning out for strong winds Sunday evening and latest high resolution charts show strong gusts into many areas but strongest in Southwest and West. Very wet at times Sunday also. There is a risk of warnings being upgraded so keep an eye on updates."Join our Dublin Live breaking news service on WhatsApp. Click this link to receive your daily dose of Dublin Live content.
