Netflix's Top 5 Anime Record of Ragnarok Might Be the Wildest Show of 2025
Few popular anime are as polarizing as Record of Ragnarok due to its first two seasons and their iffy to downright poor animation. Despite this, the series adapts an incredible manga illustrated by the Azychika supergroup and written by Shinya Umemura and Takumi Fukui. Now, with season 3, it is dominating the competition on Netflix's streaming charts. This update comes courtesy of both Netflix's non-English streaming series stats, where Record of Ragnarok ranked #2 behind The Price of Confession for December 8-December 14, 2025. Additionally, FlixPatrol's latest assessment shows the anime at #5 worldwide for top shows on Netflix overall as of December 16. It's no doubt, either, as it's the best season yet.
Is This the Real Life, or Is This Just Fantasy?
Qin Shi Huang without his blindfold in Record of Ragnarok season 3
The continuous success of Record of Ragnarok is an astounding sight to see, especially since its previous seasons were relatively disappointing. But yet, its engaging story and dedicated fan base contributed to its previous success, such as season 2, part 2 releasing in July 2023, amassing 18,600,000 hours watched at #3 on the charts, challenging the dominant King the Land. Much like the humans fighting for survival as depicted in the anime, Record of Ragnarok is holding its own for the medium, even overtaking the massively popular City of Shadows on Netflix's charts last week. But with season 3 raising the stakes, with humanity's hopes stoked while the gods eke out another lead, season 4 is already in-demand.
Season 3 of Record of Ragnarok settles the 3-3 tie left behind by the previous season, pitting Qin Shi Huang of Warring States Period China against Hades himself. But just like the last two seasons, the incredible fights don't end there, with rounds dedicated to Nikola Tesla vs. Beelzebub, and King Leonidas vs. Apollo.
It's Our Failures That Drive Humanity's Progress!
Nikola Tesla shrugging off injuries in Record of Ragnarok season 3, episode #8
With cheeky little references like Heimdall reciting the opening lines of "Bohemian Rhapsody" in episode #6, and Nikola Tesla rallying humanity even as their hopes risk being extinguished in episode #11, Record of Ragnarok was bound for an excellent season 3. However, the more important change was a structural one. Graphinica and Yumeta Company were the long-serving dual studios behind Record of Ragnarok's anime, but, despite doing an excellent job individually on projects like Hellsing: Ultimate and together on Muv-Luv Alternative, they've struggled on this series. Season 3, however, swaps Graphinica out, joining its subsidiary, Yumeta Company, with Maru Animation.
It's not enough to say it's a masterpiece, but it means Record of Ragnarok is no longer relegated to guilty pleasure viewing.
This change-up has left each fo the fights with more vibrant colors, less awkward use of CGI, even with Round 8's prominent usage, and an overall competent production. It's not enough to say it's a masterpiece, but it means Record of Ragnarok is no longer relegated to guilty pleasure viewing. This is absolutely a good thing, too, because season 4 will not only feature the first duel between a Japanese Shinsengumi legend, Soji Okita, and Susano'o-no-Mikoto himself. Combine that with the anime's first-ever sniper battle, and a showstopper with a primordial god, and it's clear, this animation change-up was made in the nick of time.
