Dublin City Marathon 2025: Start times, road closures, route and public transport
Thousands of runners are getting set to take to the city's streets for the 2025 Dublin MarathonIrish Life Dublin Marathon 2023(Image: Stephen Collins/Collins Photos)The Dublin Marathon is set to take over the city on Sunday October 26.Kicking off at 8.40am, it will begin at Leeson Street Lower and finish on Mount Street Upper after making its way all over south Dublin. There will be rolling road closures on the day and they vary depending on the location.Here's everything you need to know:Start timesWheelchair participants will start at 8:40am. They will be followed by runners in four different waves as follows: Wave 1 - 8:45am, Wave 2 - 9:05am, Wave 3 - 9:25am, Wave 4 - 9:45am.Course organisers have advised participants to arrive an hour beforehand to ensure sure all baggage is dropped off at Merrion Square. Don't forget that the clocks go back an hour on Sunday morning.Race routeDublin Marathon 2025 routeRoad closuresMerrion Square South will be shut from 10am on Friday, October 24, until 2pm on Monday, October 27.Merrion Square Upper, Mount Street Crescent, Merrion Square East, and Fitzwilliam Street Upper to Baggot Street will all be closed at 6am on Saturday, October 25 and reopen at 8pm on Sunday, October 26.The following streets will be closed at 3.30am on Sunday morning and reopen at 11am later that day: St Stephen's Green South; St Stephen's Green North; Cuffe Street; Kevin Street Lower; Kevin Street Upper; Patrick Street; Nicholas Street; High Street; Bridge Street Upper; Bridge Street Lower; Merchants Quay; O'Donovan Rossa Bridge; Inns Quay; Arran Quay; Ellis Quay.The following streets will be closed at 3.30am on Sunday morning and reopen at 11.30am on Sunday: North Circular Road; Manor Street; Stoneybatter; North Road; Spa Road; Lord's Walk; Blackhall Place.The following streets will be closed at 3.30am on Sunday morning and reopen at 1pm on Sunday: Fitzwilliam Square East; Fitzwilliam Place; Fitzwilliam Square North; Fitzwilliam Square South; Fitzwilliam Street Upper; Fitzwilliam Square West; Cumberland Road; Wilton Terrace; Wilton Place; Clanwilliam Place; Baggot Street Lower; Leeson Street Lower; Merrion Row; Pembroke Street Lower; Lad Lane; Lad Lane Upper; Hatch Street.The following streets will be closed from 3.30am on Sunday morning and will reopen at 5.30pm on Sunday evening: Verschoyle Place; Grattan Street and Court; Wilson's Place and Grant's Row; Fitzwilliam Lane; Baggot Place; Pembroke Row; Hagan's Court; Mount Street Lower; Fitzwilliam Street Lower; Stephen's Place; Stephen's Lane; James Street East; Orwell Road; Orwell Park; Dartry Road; Milltown Road; Clonskeagh Road; Roebuck Road; Foster's Avenue (inbound only under Garda traffic); Stillorgan Road (N11 – bus lane only); UCD Flyover; Nutley Lane.The following streets will be closed from 3.30am on Sunday morning and will reopen at 8pm on Sunday evening: Merrion Square North; Nassau Street; Kildare Street; Clare Street; Warrington Place; Merrion Square West; Herbert Place; Herbert Street; Herbert Lane; Powers Court; Holles Street; Mount Street Crescent; Stillorgan Road (N11 – bus lane only); Terenure Road East; Fortfield Road; Templeogue Road; Sarsfield Road; St Laurence Road; Chapelizod Gate; Chapelizod Road; Chapelizod Bridge; Crumlin Road; Walkinstown Road; Kimmage Road West (Water Station).Public transportDublin BusDublin Bus has advised there will be a number of diversions throughout the weekend due to the event. You can find the full list of diversions here.LuasDue to the marathon, there will be a temporary partial closure on Luas Red Line, with no services operating between Heuston and Connolly from approximately 08:45 to 10:45 on Sunday. Red Line services will run between Tallaght / Saggart and Heuston only during this time. The Luas Red Line will be back to normal service, between Red Cow and Connolly at approximately 10:45.Irish RailThose planning on travelling to the Dublin City Marathon by train should take note of Irish Rail disruption due to works. Irish Rail will under take a series of works across the weekend, including overhead line renewal, track and crossover renewal, bridge works, vegetation management and enabling works for battery-electric infrastructure.This means there will be no DART services between Connolly and Howth/Malahide from Saturday, October 25 to Monday, October 27. Dublin Bus and GoAhead will accept rail tickets to/from affected areas. DART services will operate between Connolly and Greystones.Additionally, there will be no Commuter rail services between Dublin and Drogheda.
