Bluebell Waterways development to deliver almost 400 homes to Dublin 12

A new housing development of almost 400 homes planned for Dublin 12 has been submitted for construction approval. Bluebell Waterways will be on the 5th Lock along the Grand Canal in south Dublin. It will be located within the former filter bed complex and will include community space and travel links. Local residents, businesses and community groups were consulted about the plans over the last year before the Part 8 application was submitted. The plans are for 383 high quality, sustainable homes on a 2.8-hectare site, owned by Dublin City Council, in addition to community spaces, a creche and landscaped open spaces. The homes will be a mix of studio, one, two and three bed apartments. Overall, 150 of the homes will be social and the remaining 233 will be cost rental apartments. DCC will offer existing residents of the Bluebell Maisonettes and La Touche Court the first of the social homes within Phase 1. The cost rental will provide secure long-term rental accommodation at discounted market rates and will be managed by the LDA. Director of Development at the Land Development Agency Phelim O’Neill said: “Following an extensive consultation with local residents and community groups, we are delighted to now lodge a planning application for much needed social and affordable homes in the Dublin 12 area. I would like to thank everyone who took the time to engage with the LDA and DCC on the draft plans. We have taken your commentary on board and have designed a development, which we believe meets the housing and social needs of the community, and which will attract new services and opportunities.” Assistant Chief Executive and Director of Housing at Dublin City Council Mick Mulhern said: “We are delighted to lodge the planning application for Bluebell Waterways with our partners in the LDA. This is an important milestone in the regeneration of one of Dublin’s oldest communities. We have worked hard to ensure that community engagement was at the heart of this project, and we are confident that this development will create a safe and social environment for existing and future residents.” Join our Dublin Live breaking news service on WhatsApp. Click this link to receive your daily dose of Dublin Live content.
