Huge student apartment building planned for Dublin's North King Street
Plans have been submitted to develop over 350 student apartments on a site on Dublin's North King Street. The development will include 361 beds made up of 62 studios, 291 single rooms and eight accessible rooms. There will also be a central courtyard at ground level, a roof terrace at fifth floor level along Brown Street North to the south and a roof terrace at sixth floor level along North King Street. The building will be up to seven storeys high and includes student accommodation as well as a retail development. Facilities will include a library, gym, yoga studio, reception and exhibition space, laundry, games room, office/admin and luggage/parcel store. There will also be some improvements along the roads and junctions located beside the development. That includes widening the carriageway on Brown Street North, a footpath on the eastern side of Brown Street North and pedestrian friendly junction threshold at both the Bow Street and North King Street junctions. The applicant said in its report: "The proposal provides for the redevelopment of an underutilised site and delivers much needed student accommodation in a city centre location. As demonstrated in this report, the revised proposed development is fully in accordance with national guidance, the DCC Housing Strategy, zoning, student accommodation policies and objectives and the development management provisions of the DCDP 2022 – 2028." Observations will be accepted on the application until May 29. A decision from Dublin City Council is expected shortly afterward.
