Attempted murderer on the loose after shooting New Jersey pet store owner in the face with a crossbow

A pet store owner in New Jersey became the victim of a grisly crime after she was shot in the face with a crossbow — now authorities are on the hunt to find her assailant. Shortly before 6pm on Monday, Saddle Brook Police responded to a call of a woman who had been seriously injured at her business, Birds by Joe 2. The woman, identified as Katarina by another location, was taken to hospital, is currently in stable condition and expected to survive the attack. Birds by Joe said in a Facebook post: 'Birds by Joe 2 is temporarily closed... Katarina is recovering and investigations are underway. Will update soon.' SBPD said they are investigating the attempted homicide after the suspect fled following the shooting.  According to a Facebook post, the pet store is expected be closed until Friday.  Prior to the incident, the store was robbed only weeks ago of a $7,000 African grey parrot. Security footage showed the moment a man sprinted off with the bird in a carrier as Katarina Rukavishnikova ran after him. Rukavishnikova told the New York Post: 'This guy came in and started asking all the right questions. According to the store's Instagram, the bird was sold on, but an anonymous tip was called in helping them be reunited 'It actually took me a few seconds to realize what was happening - the reality of it. This never happened to us,' she added. The thief made a dash for the door with the bird carrier after Rukavishnikova had turned to fill out documents. In an Instagram post, the store shared footage of the theft and asked for help getting the parrot back. 'It is being taken care of? Because this person is all over the news, did he drop the bird somewhere? That's my main concern,' she said. 'We definitely hope the bird is OK and alive,' she added. 'Yes, it's a lot of money that we're losing, but at the same time I'm more concerned about the well-being of the bird.' In a miraculous moment, the parrot was returned on February 3 after it was missing since January 23. According to the store's Instagram, the bird was sold on, but an anonymous tip was called in helping them be reunited. It is currently unclear if the incidents are related.
