Community Health & Resource Fair brings services, screenings and family activities to Caliente
Residents from across Lincoln County will have an opportunity to connect with health services, community organizations and local businesses Saturday as the Community Health & Resource Fair brings a day of screenings, resources and family activities to Caliente.
Grover C. Dils Medical Center and the Lincoln Community Coalition of Nevada have teamed up to host the event Saturday, Aug. 15, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Caliente Elementary School gym, 289 Lincoln Street.

The fair is designed to bring a wide range of resources together in one place while giving residents an opportunity to learn more about services available within the community. Along with health and wellness information, visitors can expect local organizations and businesses, activities, food, giveaways and raffles throughout the day.
One of the day’s primary health services will be discounted blood work offered by Grover C. Dils Medical Center for $35. The lab package includes a complete blood count (CBC), comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP), lipid panel and A1C, with PSA testing also included for male patients.
Those planning to have blood work completed are instructed not to eat for 12 hours prior to having their labs drawn. Both cash and cards will be accepted at the event.
Free health screenings will also be available throughout the fair. The Lions Club of Lincoln County will be among the participating organizations, offering vision screenings to attendees.
The Lincoln County Record will host an NVC Media booth as part of the day’s activities, featuring activities and free newspapers for visitors.
The Lincoln Community Coalition of Nevada will also be available to connect residents with community resources.
Additional local businesses, agencies and organizations are expected to participate, giving visitors a chance to learn about resources they may not otherwise realize are available to them.
One of the more anticipated sights of the day will be outside the gym, where an emergency medical helicopter is expected to be on display between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to see an air ambulance up close, meet flight crew members and learn more about the role air medical transportation plays in responding to emergencies in rural communities.
Organizers have also made the fair an event for families rather than focusing solely on health screenings and services. Children have been invited to complete a special Community Health & Resource Fair coloring page and bring it with them Saturday for an opportunity to be entered into a prize drawing.
Fairgoers will have another way to enter for prizes as they make their way through the event. Attendees can place their name and phone number on a raffle ticket and have it marked as they visit participating booths. Completed tickets can then be returned for entry into the raffle. Winners are scheduled to be drawn Monday and will be contacted following the event.
The booth activity gives residents an added incentive to explore the entire fair while learning about businesses, organizations and services operating in and around Lincoln County.
For organizers, the event is about more than providing information for a few hours. By bringing medical services, community resources, businesses and families together under one roof, the Community Health & Resource Fair is intended to make those connections easier to find before residents need them.
Locals are encouraged to stop by throughout the day to explore the booths, take advantage of available screenings and services and learn more about resources available throughout Lincoln County.
