SEDIMENT SCULPTURES – North Iceland
Along the banks of Jökulsá á Fjöllum, a glacial river in northern Iceland, fluctuating water levels continually reshape deposits of volcanic sand and glacial sediment. Photographed in both the soft light of early morning and the warm glow of evening, the resulting formations reveal temporary ridges, folds, and flowing contours that often appear more sculpted than naturally formed.
Created by nothing more than sand, water, and time, these fleeting structures resemble carved reliefs, folded fabrics, or hand-shaped clay. Captured over multiple visits to the same location, the series explores the remarkable ability of simple natural processes to create forms that seem almost intentional—before they are gradually reworked by the river once again.
