In Jaws, extra security and anxious beachgoers scan the crowded Fourth of July waters with binoculars, only for a fake fin prank to draw everyone's attention to the main beach. Meanwhile, the real great white shark quietly enters the nearby tidal estuary, attacking a local boater (Ted Grossman) right in front of Chief Martin Brody's (Roy Scheider) horrified son. After rushing his traumatized child to the hospital for shock, a distraught Brody confronts a humbled and guilt-ridden Mayor Larry Vaughn (Murray Hamilton), who finally surrenders to the tragic reality and agrees to hire seasoned shark hunter Quint.
