Cyberpunks, mutants, and mondoids gather in San Francisco in August

Gray Area in San Francisco hands its Grand Theater to the 1990s techno-counterculture on August 12 and 13, when R.U. Sirius and the crowd behind the cyberculture magazine Mondo 2000 stage their second Deliria gathering — two days of film, talks, music, and performance.

Wednesday opens with the San Francisco premiere of Nova '78, pieced together from rediscovered footage of the 1978 Nova Convention, which put William S. Burroughs on a bill with Allen Ginsberg, Patti Smith, and Frank Zappa. Rudy Rucker sits for an interview, Tony Parisi and Marina Berlin present Jenoko, an AI god that takes audience questions, and Craig Baldwin's Tribulation 99 screens at 10:15 p.m.

Thursday brings a Marc Franklin photo exhibition, Annalee Newitz, and a reading from a forthcoming Mondo 2000 book, then a night of Cyrnai, Guillermo Gómez-Peña / La Pocha Nostra, and John Law. The event description promises "resisting dystopia while dancing and japing amidst the new wreckage." Tickets are sold by the day or as a two-day pass.
