Albion Online’s Dragonfire update adds dragons, a new realm, and Fire Drake mounts

|

Albion Online is finally getting dragons, with developer Sandbox Interactive confirming that the MMORPG’s major Dragonfire update will launch on August 31, 2026.

The free update will introduce dragon encounters, a new explorable realm called the Ancient Lands, additional equipment, a raid dungeon, and the opportunity for dedicated players to raise their own Fire Drake mount.

Dragonfire will be available across all currently supported versions of Albion Online, including PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, Xbox, Android, and iOS.

Dragons are coming to Albion Online

The update’s story revolves around the Ashborn, a faction whose rituals have awakened dragons from Albion’s ancient past.

The most dangerous of these creatures is Azaryon, the Fire Dragon, who can be found deep inside a heavily guarded lair. Sandbox Interactive describes the encounter as Albion Online’s toughest PvE battle to date, requiring coordinated groups to combine skill, teamwork, and preparation.

Dragons will not be restricted to organised endgame encounters, however. The creatures will also launch attacks across the Royal Continent and the Outlands, creating spontaneous battles for solo players and larger guilds.

These roaming dragon encounters should give players more reasons to explore Albion’s existing regions while also creating potentially chaotic situations in the game’s player-driven open world.

Explore the Ancient Lands

The Ashborn’s rituals have also opened portals leading to the Ancient Lands, a previously unknown realm made up of floating islands located above Albion.

Players exploring the region will encounter Ashborn forces, powerful Drakes, and valuable treasure. The difficulty of these encounters will increase as groups travel deeper into the realm.

Those able to reach the Dragon Sanctuary will discover a new raid dungeon featuring several powerful enemies, including the leader of the Ashborn.

Dragonfire will also introduce equipment crafted from dragon bones and wings. The resulting Dragon Armor sets will provide players with new abilities to use during combat.

The update’s most desirable reward may be the Drake Egg, which can be obtained by defeating Azaryon. Players who successfully acquire an egg will be able to nurture it and eventually raise their own Fire Drake mount.

“Dragonfire is a game-changing update that has been long requested by our community,” said Game Director, Moritz Bokelmann. “We can’t wait for players to face the new challenges, including the toughest PvE battle to date, and explore a whole new realm in the skies above Albion from 31 August.”

Albion Online originally launched in 2017 and recently received a significant visual overhaul alongside its debut on Xbox consoles.

The Dragonfire update will launch on August 31 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, Android, and iOS. Albion Online remains free to download and play across all supported platforms.
