I appreciate a solid press release as much as the next ageing game journo. The one for the upcoming arcade skate game from Goon Squad, Skatesterre plays a straight bat down the middle – fast-paced, tricks to master, oh, and it features super popular Dutch skateboarder Sterre Meijer, who you may or may not know as Surfsterre, who has a massive social following in the multi-millions on Insta and the likes.
Sterre, it’s probably fair to say, has a particular kind of audience that she has cultivated with clever self-promotion, a paid site where you can get exclusive content where she, er hosts her modelling shots (verified for research purps), and coupled with a huge amount of board-based talent, be that skateboards, surfboards or windsurfing. Sterre is what is known as a triple-threat.
She’s basically the Paige Spiranac of the skate world right now.

In a skate game world where we pine for a reboot of the grizzled reincarnation of Tony Hawk, it’s fair to say Goon Squad has gone in the other direction in terms of its lead character, but the gameplay, as you can see in the trailer, is right out of the arcade skate games of yore, and more power to it for that.

With skate currently ruling the roost as the big budget option, Goon Squad will be hoping that in bringing Sterre to the genre, it can tap into some of her 7.7 million social following to create a buzz when the game releases on August 13 on PC, PS5, Xbox and Switch 2.
Who is Sterre Meijer aka Skatesterre?
Sterre Meijer, better known online as Surfsterre, is a 21-year-old Dutch skateboarder, surfer and social media creator from Renesse in the Netherlands. After initially making her name through windsurfing and surfing, Meijer built a substantial online following by sharing skateboarding clips, fashion content and glimpses of her life, becoming one of the most-followed female skaters on social media and appearing in the Olympic Channel’s Skate-hers series.
Sterre offers her own paid-for content on Passes, a site that has been likened to OnlyFans, although Passes bars explicit adult content.
She currently has around 7.7 million followers across her social platforms, including approximately 3.2 million on Instagram and close to one million YouTube subscribers.
She is now making the jump into video games as the star of Skatesterre, an arcade skateboarding game inspired by the genre’s late-1990s golden era. Developed by Goon Squad and published by Headup, the game uses Meijer’s name and likeness and is due to launch in 2026 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.
