Railone to build modern concrete sleeper plant in Nürnberg

GERMANY: Railone has announced the construction a ‘state-of-the-art’ concrete sleeper plant in Nürnberg to replace its oldest plant in Neumarkt which dates from 1954.

The new plant on Triester Straße in the city’s inland port area will cover 42 000 m². It will have the capacity to produce up to 600 000 concrete sleepers per year for both the German and international markets, along with storage space for 200 000 sleepers.

Railone said there would  be a focus on efficiency, quality, sustainability and future-oriented production processes, including a carousel-operated late demoulding system with extensive automation, and two 350 m loading sidings. Around 50 to 70 people will be employed across production and administration.

‘The Neumarkt plant has been synonymous with Railone’s success story for decades and has played a key role in shaping our company’, commented Chief Project Officer Verena Zahradnik on July 10. ‘This makes it all the more important for us to set a new course with the new site in Nürnberg. With this investment, we are sending a clear signal of our long-term commitment to the German market.’
