Outpouring of support as fundraiser for tragically lost Athlone teen surpasses €10,000

Organiser Linda Barr wrote: ‘Hi, my name is Linda, with consent from the family of this young boy we will be trying to raise some money to help Yvonne pay funeral expenses. ‘Every family goes through difficult times but without the help of family and friends it can be very hard. So please if anyone can help by donating as little as you have or more it would be brilliant.’ Pic: RIP.ie To date, the fundraiser has raised €11,304. The youngster is predeceased by his father John, and grandparents Peter, Christopher and Christina. He is survived by his mum Yvonne, brothers John and Peter, sister Caroline, girlfriend Annie, grandmother Winnie, niece, nephews, aunts, uncles, relatives and many friends. On Thursday (July 16), Martin will be laid to rest at an 11am Requiem Mass in Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Coosan. The family have requested that all attendees wear the colour of red to symbolise Martin’s love for Liverpool F.C. Martin died on Saturday evening after getting into difficulty in the water in Westmeath. The alarm was raised shortly after 7.20pm, prompting a large-scale response involving Gardaí, the Irish Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter 118 and volunteers from the Lough Ree RNLI.
