Gardaí swoop in after pony found tied to a tree in scorching heat
Gardaí have said they had to seize a pony found tied to a tree in the heat.
The pony, which was not microchipped, was being used to pull a cart in the heat in the Bishopstown area of Co Cork.
Gardaí said that they found the pony tied to a tree outside of a housing estate, with enquiries finding that the pony was purchased at a recent horse fair.

It was then transported to the public green area of a housing estate, where it has remained since.
The pony was seized under the Control of Horses Act 1996, and is now in the care of vets, where it is being well looked after.
In a post on Facebook, the Gardaí’s Cork division said that animal owners have a legal obligation to properly identify their animals, as well as being obliged to keep them under control.
‘An Garda Síochána reminds all animal owners that they have a legal responsibility to ensure their animals are properly identified, kept under control, and that their welfare is safeguarded at all times.’
The seizure of the pony comes after animal welfare charity My Lovely Horse Rescue issued an appeal after a horse that they seized was stolen from its premises.
