The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t A Guy At All Anime To Feature Nirvana Theme Song, Dave Grohl Says Kurt Cobain Would’ve Loved The Manga

R.I.P. Kurt Cobain, you would've loved The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn't A Guy At All, according to Dave Grohl. The manga series (which started on Twitter) is getting turned into an animated series, and details were revealed Friday (July 3) at the Anime Expo in Los Angeles, including that Nirvana's "Breed" will be the opening theme.

Nirvana is referenced throughout the original manga (along with bands like Turnstile and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard), and the character Mitsuki is first introduced wearing a Nirvana hoodie. Crunchyroll also shared a short interview between Dave Grohl and creator Sumiko Arai alongside the teaser. "I think that Kurt definitely would've loved this," Grohl said. "It seems like the same message, aesthetic, and the vibe — it's cool."

The series is slated to premiere January 2027, and Masashi Ishihama will be directing. Watch the interview and teaser below.
