The new 52kWh battery version of the Nissan Leaf promises range of up to 280 miles (WLTP) on a single charge from a starting OTR price of £28,849 (with the grant applied). Nissan has confirmed that it will be available on the Engage and Advance trims, calling it a “highly competitive entry point” to the LEAF model range.
As previously reported: in terms of features, the ‘Engage’ trim comes with a heat pump, 18-inch alloys, an 11kW onboard charger and two 12.3-inch screens as standard. A package including Google services, heated front seats and steering wheel, as well as larger screens, costs another £900 on top of the entry price. Next up the pricing ladder, there’s the ‘Advance’ trim, which adds a dimming panoramic roof, head-up display, electric boot lid, privacy glass and a wraparound front light bar to the features already in the base version. Unlike the 72kWh Leaf, he 52kWh variant is seemingly not available in the ‘Evolve’ trim, which offers a Bose soundsystem, V2L functionality, synthetic leather seats and more.
Aditya Moore, Product Manager at Nissan Motors GB, said: “We are excited to introduce the new 52kWh battery option on the All-New Nissan LEAF, offering up to 280 miles of range (WLTP) and starting at an attractive £28,849 with the Electric Car Grant. Designed for everyday driving, it combines confident electric performance with the comfort, technology and practicality customers expect from LEAF.”
The Japanese carmaker confirmed that production of right-hand drive Leaf EVs has begun at its Sunderland plant, with cars set to arrive at dealerships later this summer.
The 52kWh variant follows the original 75kWh version of the new Leaf, which – by way of comparison – comes with a base price of £32,249. In terms of technical specifications, the 75kWh Leaf allows for a range of up to 386 miles. A 213 bhp (158 kW) motor allows for acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in 7.6 seconds.
