Israel FA mocked for tagging WRONG association in ‘warning’ to Ireland
Social media users were quick to point out a mistake in an Israeli FA post on Friday. They were reacting to the FAI’s decision to move Ireland’s home Nations League game against Israel to a neutral country. In their post, they “warned” Ireland of their “ambition to win” the October 4 game, regardless of the venue. However, as well as tagging the FAI’s official account, they also tagged the Irish Football Association.Northern Ireland fans might be wondering why their association has been caught up in the row, but Ireland fans were quick to point out the error. There were also plenty of replies stating that the game should not take place at all.The reaction to the FAI’s decision on Friday was one of anger, with fans pledging to continue their protests.A 'Stop The Game' banner hung over the front of the Riverside Stand on Friday night at Tolka Park during Shelbourne's win over Shamrock Rovers.Moving the game hasn’t quashed political opposition either, with Sinn Féin issuing a stinging response.Spokesperson on Sport Joanna Byrne said: “Today’s confirmation that the FAI will move the Nations League Fixture against Israel to a neutral venue and behind closed doors flies in the face of the demands of the Irish public and the Irish football community, including the Professional Footballers Association of Ireland (PFAI) and Irish Football Supporters Partnership (IFSP), to Stop The Game.”Those campaigning against the game are considering their next moves ahead of the scheduled games on September 27 and October 4.Click here to sign up to our sport newsletter, bringing you the top stories and biggest headlines from Ireland and beyond.
