A woman in Brazil was left injured, but alive, after a manhole cover collapsed beneath her as she walked to work. CCTV footage captured the shocking moment 31-year-old cook Fabiana Rosa stepped onto the cover, which gave way without warning, sending her plunging into the sewer below. The cover then flipped back into place, trapping her underground. A passing motorcyclist who witnessed the incident rushed to help, with several bystanders joining the rescue effort to lift the heavy cover and pull her to safety. Fabiana was taken to hospital in Rio de Janeiro, where she was treated for moderate injuries to her head, chest, back, arms and legs.

Nepali guide Dawa Sherpa was last seen descending from the summit near Camp 3 at an altitude of around 7,500 metres, with hopes of finding him alive fading as search efforts continued.
