Safety warning as at least nine die in waters since Sunday
The family of 12-year-old Junior Slater have paid tribute to their “little blue-eyed boy”, saying “words can’t describe how we are feeling right now”.
Junior’s body was found by police in the River Ribble in Lancashire last night after he got into difficulties while swimming with friends.
Safety charities have again warned of the dangers of cold water shock to those swimming in open water on very hot days. At least nine people have died in water since Sunday.
