Galway West by-election 2026 LIVE results updates as battle shaping up between two candidates
Ballot boxes have been opened at Salthill's Lawn Tennis Club for the counting of votes in the Galway West by-elections.The polls closed at 10pm last night as counting began on Saturday morning at 9am with 196 ballot boxes being brought into the count centre in Salthill.First count is expected around midday or after.The final turnout numbers were as follows: Spiddal 1173 50%; Moycullen 2155 59%; Oranmore 1503 47%; Knocknacarra 4302 46%; Salthill 1963 49%; Renmore 1751 36%; Carraroe 921 46%; Doughiska 1435 41%; Bushypark 1604 47%; Claregalway 1142 43%; Ballybane 1448 40%; Westside 1534 40%; Aran Islands 139 39%; Tirellan 2356 42%.The voting process uses a multiple preferences system. This means that voters list the candidates in order of preference.The most recent opinion polls placed Fine Gael’s Seán Kyne as the candidate with most first choice preferences.According to the latest Ipsos data on first preference voting, Senator Seán Kyne is leading the pack with 17 per cent of likely voters pledging him their number one.Follow the latest updates below...
