007 First Light best pre-order deals and how to play early access

Will you be pre-ordering? (IO Interactive) The first new James Bond video game in over a decade launches very soon and you can even start playing it a day early. It has been 14 years since the last traditional James Bond video game and, based on our early impressions, 007 First Light stands to be a very authentic adaptation and potentially better than some of the movies. As a reminder, the game is in development at IO Interactive, the same studio responsible for the Hitman series and while 007 First Light bears some similarities, it still feels distinctly Bond-like. With the game’s launch getting closer and closer, we’ve put together a guide on what you need to know about 007 First Light along with the best pre-order deals available. When does 007 First Light launch? 007 First Light is scheduled to launch on Wednesday, May 27 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. If you purchase the game digitally, it will become available to play at precisely 3pm BST. There are plans for a Nintendo Switch 2 version as well, but that won’t be launching until an undisclosed date later this year. No need to wake up at the crack of dawn to start playing ASAP (IO Interactive) Is there early access for 007 First Light? Yes, there is an early access period for 007 First Light, which lets you play the game starting from May 26; 24 hours before its public launch. If you want early access, you need to pre-order the standard edition of the game digitally. It isn’t included with any of the special editions nor is it included with physical pre-orders. How many editions are there for 007 First Light? There are four editions of 007 First Light available for pre-order. The first is the standard edition, which also includes a free deluxe upgrade that adds four extra in-game outfits, a weapon skin, and a pack of four gadget skins. Again, only digital pre-orders include early access. Second is the Specialist edition, which is only available physically. It comes with the game, the deluxe upgrade, and a classic tuxedo for Bond to wear. The main attraction of the Collector’s edition is the gold mask (IO Interactive) Third is the Collector’s edition, which comes with everything in the Specialist edition, plus an obsidian gold outfit to wear in-game, a lifesize gold mask replica, and a steel case. This edition is only available physically and has a limited supply. Lastly, there’s the Legacy edition. This includes everything from the Collector’s edition, except for the mask, as well as a golden gun replica and an in-game golden gun skin. Just like the Collector’s edition, it’s only available physically and in limited supply. What are the best pre-order deals for 007 First Light? The standard edition of 007 First Light is available digitally for £59.99, but there are a few retailers selling the physical version for less than that. HMV has the best offer at £52.99, but at the time of writing, it’s out of stock. The next best deals are at Very and Monster Shop, which are selling the game for £53.99, or ShopTo, which is selling it for £53.85. For whatever reason, Very has the Xbox version listed for £52.99. The Specialist edition is being sold as an Amazon exclusive, so it’s only available for £59.99; the exact same price as digital copies of the standard edition. The Collector’s edition is, unfortunately, out of stock across most retailers. The best price we can spot is £164.99 at Smyths, but there’s no telling when or if it’ll be available again. The only retailer with any stock left is GAME, which is offering it for £169.99. The Legacy edition gives you a golden gun in both the game and real life (IO Interactive) The Legacy edition, meanwhile, is currently available, but it’s very expensive at £259.99. ShopTo had it for £251.85, but it’s sold out. This leaves The Game Collection as the cheapest option but at £259.95, you’re only saving several pennies. If you’re willing to pay £259.99 for it, GAME, Smyths, and Very all have the Legacy Edition in stock at the time of writing. Is 007 First Light based on the James Bond movies? While 007 First Light is drawing inspiration from the James Bond movies as well as the original books by Ian Fleming, it is not a direct adaptation of any existing Bond story. It is instead billed as a reimagined origin story that depicts Bond as a rookie MI6 agent and showing how he obtained his 00 status. As such, it is not meant to be canon to the film series. Who is starring in 007 First Light? 007 First Light stars Patrick Gibson as James Bond himself.
