Russia just hit Ukraine with over 1,500 drones and missiles within 24 hours. In the largest attack of the war, over 700 drones first targeted Western Ukraine and prompted Budapest to summon the Russian ambassador. President Volodymyr Zelensky has vowed a response, while Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Russia chose “terror” over peace. French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz both condemned the strike, saying it does not reflect a sincere willingness to negotiate from Moscow’s side. President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine intercepted 94% of drones and 73% of missiles during Russia’s latest nearly two-day mass assault involving more than 1,500 drones and 56 missiles. But the versions of events also differ slightly from Washington and Beijing – Chinese state media said the two discussed Taiwan, with Beijing telling Washington that backing the island could lead to collisions, but Washington made no mention of that in subsequent readouts.
