MAN Truck & Bus wins Lithuanian city bus contract

The first vehicles are scheduled to arrive in Vilnius later this year. Delivery of the remaining fleet is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2027 and will be delivered by Adampolis, MAN’s local partner in Lithuania. Adampolis sells, rents and services commercial transport and specialised equipment and will be handling technical maintenance for the buses for a period of five years. “Our goal is to ensure that every passenger feels welcome in public transport – that journeys are not only fast but also comfortable, safe, and pleasant,” said Loreta Levulytė-Staškevičienė, Head of JUDU, the organisation responsible for public transport services in Vilnius. “Electric buses reduce pollution and noise while providing a smoother travel experience for both residents and visitors,” she pointed out.In summer 2024, the Lithuanian government announced subsidies for the procurement of 275 electric buses and the associated charging infrastructure, with around 55 million euros from EU funds. It is now mandated that by 2026, public transport operators will only be allowed to procure buses with alternative drive systems.Electric trolley buses in Vilnius have so far been provided by Solaris and Skoda, while the local airport is serviced with buses from airport bus specialist Cobus. Since putting its electric buses on the market, MAN has been enjoying public transport contracts across Europe.“This order is further impressive proof of the MAN Lion’s City E’s strong market position in Europe. Vilnius is placing its trust in our proven technology, thereby sending a strong signal for the future of zero-emission public transport – far beyond Lithuania’s borders,” says Robert Katzer, head of sales & product bus at MAN Truck & Bus.MAN recently began series production of the Lion’s City E at its Ankara plant in Turkey, which the German busmaker and Traton subsidiary, as part of the Volkswagen Group, says is its third global electric bus production site alongside Starachowice in Poland and Olifantsfontein in South Africa. Just over a year ago, MAN Truck & Bus officially launched its battery production at the Nuremberg plant in southern Germany. In April 2025, MAN and Improtex Trucks & Buses signed an MoU agreement to begin jointly assembling Lion’s City E buses in Azerbaijan. The first units are expected to roll out this year.mantruckandbus.com
