Rebel Labour MP threatens leadership bid as calls grow for Starmer to resign

Sir Keir Starmer is facing calls from some of his own MPs to resign in the wake of Labour's disastrous local election results. Catherine West, Labour MP for Hornsey and Friern Barnet, has threatened to a launch leadership bid if senior colleagues do not agree on a successor soon, stating that "working people sent us a message on Thursday". Former deputy prime minister Angela Rayner has also spoken out, saying it was "a mistake" to block Andy Burnham from running in the Gorton and Denton by-election and calling for him to be allowed to return.
