‘Running Point’ Season 3 on Netflix: 43% Viewership Drop for S2 & What We Know So Far
Picture: Running Point – Netflix
After a 14-month wait, Running Point has returned to Netflix with a great second season, as Kate Hudson returns as Isla Gordon, the president of the Los Angeles Waves Basketball franchise. The first week’s data is in, and the numbers are disappointing, but there’s still time for the series to turn it around before Netflix decides whether to renew it. Here’s everything we know about Running Point season 3 on Netflix.
Running Point is a Netflix Original sports comedy series co-created by Mindy Kaling, Elaine Ko, David Stassen, and Ike Barinholtz. The series is co-directed by Michael Weaver, Thembi Banks, James Ponsoldt, and David Stassen.
After her brother is forced to go to rehab following a DUI charge, 30-something Isla Gordon is selected as the next president of her family’s business, the Los Angeles Waves basketball team franchise.
Running Point season 3 Netflix renewal status
Official Netflix Renewal Status: Pending (Last Updated: 29/04/2026)
At the time of writing, Netflix has not yet announced the renewal of Running Point.
The second season of Running Point is not off to the strongest of starts. While the series reached 2nd place in the Global top ten rankings, its viewing stats are lower than expected and lower than its first season’s opening week.
The first season debuted with 9.3 million views, but the second season has seen a 43% drop with 5.3 million views in the first week. The first season saw a 31% increase in the second week, so fingers crossed the second season will also see a jump in viewership.

What to expect from Running Point season 3?
The Los Angeles Industry
A new franchise has entered Los Angeles, or returned to the city, as Cam Gordon and Al Fleischman have bought their own basketball franchise, the Los Angeles Industry, after their plan to take the Los Angeles Waves failed.
With the return of the Industry to LA, this will have a ginormous impact on the Gordons and the Waves in season 3. First of all, the franchise used to be located in LA, which means some Waves fans could switch allegiances to the Industry, potentially impacting attendance and further affecting their finances.

Second, while the Industry may already have players who will need to relocate to LA, we’d expect Fleischman to open the checkbook and will attempt to poach players and other talent from teams such as the Waves. There are already two extremely talented Point Guards on the Waves, and the money may be enough to entice Travis Bugg to make a switch to the Industry. Not to mention, Ness and Ali are heading to Europe to scout some new talent, hopefully a new star Point Guard to replace Marcus Winfield, and it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see one of the talents they identify poached by the Industry.

Lastly, Cam is still a minority owner in the Waves, and his stake, if any, is unclear in the Industry and may just be employed as the president for now. But this will still constitute a conflict of interest, so there’s a chance Cam may be forced to sell his stake in Waves.
Isla and Jay?
One of the shocking developments of the Industry returning to LA was Jay Brown, the head coach of Boston, switching back to LA. Is this a financially motivated move, or will Jay’s attempt to move back to LA be to be with Isla? The move could backfire on Jay, as his switch to the Industry may come across as a betrayal of Isla. Not to mention, there would be a giant media scandal if it were revealed that Isla, the president of the Waves, was dating their rivals’ head coach.
At the very least, this will complicate the relationship between Isla and Jay.
There is also some chemistry brewing between Isla and Jay McShay. We’d expect their relationship to grow in the third season, with Luke as Isla’s new love interest.
Mutually assured not-so-destruction
If the Gordons wanted to take Cam out of the picture, then they could simply reveal to his probation officer that he had broken the terms of his probation by using Jackie’s urine to pass the drug tests. However, if it were to come to light that Cam had embezzled company funds that Sandy signed off on, Sandy would be in deep trouble.
For now, at least, both Cam and the rest of the Gordons will have to keep each other’s secrets guarded or risk destroying each other.

Brenda Song as Ali Lee.
Fabrizio Guido as Jackie Moreno.
Chat Hanks as Travis Bugg.

Blake Anderson as Leroy.
When would Running Point season 3 enter production?
Production for the second season began in August 2026, five months after it was renewed in March 2025. If the third season follows a similar timeline, we expect production to start around October 2026.
When will Running Point season 3 be on Netflix?
There were nearly 14 months between the release of Running Point seasons 1 and 2.
If the third season were to follow suit, then it’s possible we could see the series on Netflix as early as June 2027. At the very least, if the series is renewed, we would expect to see the third season on Netflix sometime in the second half of 2027.
