Kerry's Eye sold to Webprint for undisclosed sum

One of the country's best known regional newspapers Kerry's Eye has been sold for an undisclosed sum. The weekly newspaper, based in Tralee, was acquired by Webprint, the largest privately owned cold-set printing company in Ireland. In a statement issued today, the sale was confirmed by Padraig Kenneally, one of the four owners of the paper founded in 1974 by his father, the late Padraig Kennelly Senior and his late wife Joan. Mr Kenneally said the decision to sell was guided by one goal - to secure the long-term future of the 52-year-old paper. Kerry's Eye claims to have weekly sales of just over 17,000 print and digital copies, producing between 88 to 100 pages with a 24 page pull-out sports supplement on a weekly basis. Up to the sale, the newspaper had been owned by the founders' sons Padraig, Brendan and Kerry Kennelly, as well as financial controller Tom MacMahon. Padraig and Brendan are to remain actively involved while Kerry will continue in his role as Picture Editor. Donagh O'Doherty, who co-owns Webprint with his wife Jennifer O'Doherty, said "Kerry's Eye is a title with real heritage and a proud record of serving its community and the people of Kerry". "We are honoured to take on the responsibility of carrying that forward and look forward to working with the talented team at Kerry's Eye to build on its success," he added. Since 2017 Webprint has printed the newspaper at its Mahon facility in Cork.
