Limerick's first Lost Packages pop-up opens this week
A new shopping experience is coming to Limerick for the first time this month - with the "Lost Packages" pop-up store to set up in the Parkway Shopping Centre.
The pop-up shop will operate from Tuesday, April 21 to Sunday, April 26.
French start-up firm King Colis is planning to sell 10 tonnes of lost packages with mystery contents to shoppers in Limerick over the week.
Packages are sold by weight and shoppers will have 10 minutes to select all the packages they want - but they are not allowed to open them before purchase.
The packages are then weighed to find out the total price and then shoppers can unbox the surprises.
Limerick marks the third Irish city where the company will open a pop-up store having already been in Cork and Dublin.
Millions of online orders get lost for various reasons every year, most often due to incorrect delivery information. After customers receive a refund, such undelivered packages were previously destroyed.
But since 2023, King Colis has been purchasing these lost packages and giving them a second life. They are sold on the company's website or in pop-up stores in shopping centres across Europe.
King Colis said that this way, customers can help reduce waste and leave a positive environmental footprint.
CEO and co-founder Killian Denis urged people to get to Parkway Shopping Centre early.
"We had a huge turnout on the first day in Cork and Dublin so I would advise people to arrive early. We're excited to bring the pop-up store to another Irish city and we hope the people of Limerick can enjoy the excitement of the luck-dip style experience," he said.
"There are no guarantees and you never know what you’ll get when you open the parcel but it’s always a lot of fun for customers," he added.
