Tesla's Signature Edition Is a Send-Off Worth Paying Attention To

Tesla is closing the chapter on its flagship lineup in style. The company has unveiled a limited Signature Edition for both the Model S and Model X, and for collectors and longtime fans of the brand, this one is worth paying attention to. The numbers alone tell the story. Tesla is producing just 250 units of the Model S Signature Edition and 100 units of the Model X Signature Edition. Both are being offered on an invite-only basis, meaning only customers who received a direct email from Tesla are eligible to purchase. At US$159,420 before taxes and fees, these are the most expensive and most exclusive versions of either vehicle Tesla has ever offered. The Model X Signature Edition sold out in four days. As Tesla investor and analyst Sawyer Merritt noted on April 16: The $160,000 Model X Signature Edition is officially sold out. Reservations are now closed. That kind of demand, at that price point, says a lot about how Tesla's most loyal customers feel about these vehicles. So what does that price get you? Quite a lot, actually. Every unit comes finished in a deep Garnet Red paint with gold Tesla badges up front and exclusive Signature and Plaid badging at the rear. Inside, buyers get a white cabin upgraded with Alcantara accents, gold Plaid seat logos, matching piping, Signature-branded door sills, and a custom numbered dashboard plaque, so your car is literally one of a hundred or one of two hundred and fifty. Details like gold Plaid puddle lights and a unique interior lighting sequence round out the package. On the performance side, the Model S adds carbon ceramic brakes with gold-painted calipers, while the Model X keeps its red Plaid brake calipers alongside all the visual upgrades. Both come with yoke steering and large wheels, 21 inches on the Model S and 22 inches on the Model X. Every Signature Edition also includes Tesla's Luxe Package, bundling Full Self-Driving (Supervised), four years of Premium Service, free Supercharging, and Premium Connectivity. These additions bring serious long-term value, though there is a catch worth knowing about. As outlined in Tesla's purchase agreement: FSD and free Supercharging are not transferable if the vehicle is resold. Tesla also built in a one-year no-resale clause, a clear signal that these cars are meant to be kept, not flipped. Combined with the individually numbered plaques and invite-only access, Tesla has gone to considerable lengths to make sure the Signature Edition ends up with people who genuinely want it. Tesla is also planning a special delivery event in May, reportedly scheduled around sunset, to mark the occasion in a fitting way. With the Model X now sold out, attention turns to the Model S Signature Edition. At 250 units it has a little more runway, but if the Model X is anything to go by, it may not stay available for long. If you received an invitation and have been on the fence, the window is closing fast.Source: DriveTeslaPhoto credit: @SawyerMerritt on X
