East Anglia travel disruption this May Bank Holiday
Network Rail is asking passengers in Cambridgeshire to check before they travel during the May Bank Holiday, ahead of engineering work.
While disruption is intended to stay at a minimum across East Anglia and into London during the May Bank holiday, work is set to take place between Saturday, 2 and Monday, 4 May.
Network Rail engineers are set to carry out several projects intended to improve safety, reliability, and longevity. In the Ely station area, nearly 1,000 yards of worn track is set to be replaced, including six sets of points, along with old sleepers and ballast. The Cambridge Re-signalling team will be working near Bottisham to install signal foundations and retaining walls. Finally, over 1,500 yards of worn track is set to be replaced between Fordham level crossing and Kings Sidings.

During the disruption, several rail replacement services will be running where rail services terminate. Buses will run between Thetford and Cambridge North, Bury St Edmunds and Peterborough, and Peterborough and Cambridge on services between Birmingham and Stanstead Airport
On the Liverpool to Norwich route, trains are set to terminate at Peterborough, with replacement bus services also in place for onward travel.
“We’ve worked hard with our train operators to keep disruption down to a minimum for this May bank holiday.
“It’s an important time of year for leisure travellers, day-trippers and tourists to explore east-Anglia and there is no better way to do that than by rail.”
“We have a lot of great destinations on our network, and we hope people are able to enjoy a day out by train.”
Martin Beable, on behalf of Greater Anglia and Network Rail.
