Photo: Alexander Hassenstein/Bongarts/Getty ImagesFormer Arsenal goalkeeper Alex Manninger has been killed in a car accident, his first club Red Bull Salzburg have announced.The Bundesliga outfit announced on Thursday that the 48-year-old had died, in a post on its official X account.It said: “We mourn our former goalkeeper Alexander Manninger, who tragically lost his life in a traffic accident.“Our thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest in peace, Alexander.”Born in Salzburg, Manninger won 33 caps for Austria and played for clubs in his homeland, Germany and Italy, as well as making 39 appearances for Arsenal between 1997 and 2002.Manninger helped the Gunners to the Premier League and FA Cup double in the 1997-98 season and also featured in Juventus’ Serie A winning season of 2011-12.Arsenal paid tribute to Manninger on X and said: “All our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this incredibly sad time.
