Major update in case of girl who was found after being missing for six years
There’s been a huge development in the case of a girl who was found after she disappeared six years ago, when she was just five years old.
Karen Rojas disappeared from her home in Duarte, California, in 2020.
Karen, who’s now aged 11, was found earlier this month over 2,600 miles away, in Washington County, North Carolina — living under a new name and attending school in the state.

It’s understood that the girl’s mother had custody of her at the time that she was reported missing, and it has been reported that she ceased contact with the Department of Children and Family Services during the time of her disappearance. She was suspected of having taken her when she disappeared.
It has since been reported that Karen is back with her mother, and no criminal charges will be filed.
Investigators have said that Karen’s mother had legal custody of her daughter at the time they left California, but may have left California due to an investigation by social services.

‘The child was returned to mom, and that’s the end of it,’ Lt David Kearney of the LA County Sheriff’s Office said. ‘They closed their case in California, and we are not filing any criminal charges against the mom.
‘She was taken into protective custody on Tuesday, and then on Thursday, there was a court hearing,’ he continued. ‘The judge basically ruled that the daughter goes back to mom.’
Officials in California have since closed the case on the Karen, with investigators not saying if she will remain in North Carolina or return to California.
