Sylvester Stallone to Exec Produce ‘John Rambo’ Prequel Movie
has signed on to executive produce , the origin story feature about the character the Hollywood action star initially played in 1982’s First Blood, said Monday.
“Sylvester Stallone knows the character of John Rambo better than anyone, and Lionsgate has had the good fortune of partnering with Sly for more than 20 years on this legendary IP. His participation is the final, critical piece to John Rambo, and we’re thrilled to have his involvement,” Adam Fogelson, chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said in a statement.

The latest feature in the revived Rambo franchise has started production in Bangkok, Thailand. Noah Centineo, who stars in Street Fighter, leads the prequel directed by Jalmari Helander (Sisu). The ensemble cast includes Yao (Sinners), Jason Tobin (A Thousand Blows), Quincy Isaiah (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty), Jefferson White (Yellowstone) and Tayme Thapthimthong (The White Lotus).
Stallone confirmed he will exec produce the film on his Instagram page: “Rambo has been part of my life for a very long time. A character built on resilience, survival, and the scars of war. He’s meant a lot to me and to audiences around the world for decades. Now we’re going back to where his story begins. I’m excited to be executive producing @JohnRamboFilm, exploring the early chapter of the man before the legend 🥊.”
John Rambo is based on a screenplay by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. Kevin King Templeton, Les Weldon, Jonathan Yunger, Angela Russo-Otstot and Michael Disco are producing.
The executive producers include Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Trevor Short, Dallas Sonnier, Amanda Presmyk and Stallone. John Rambo is produced by Lionsgate, Millennium Media, Templeton Media, and AGBO, and will be distributed by Lionsgate.
