Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announce another bombshell overseas 'royal tour'
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have announced they will be heading on a major overseas tour of Australia in just a few weeks. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed on Sunday that they will spend time in both Sydney and Melbourne in mid-April.A spokesman for the couple said: “ Prince Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, will visit Australia in mid-April to take part in a number of private, business and philanthropic engagements. According to news.com.au, the company will also be hosting an event with Meghan rumoured to be the VIP guest, following in the footsteps of previous VIP speaker Gwyneth Paltrow.Reports have also claimed that during the trip Down Under, Harry will undertake engagements that will involve Australia’s armed forces and veterans’ community. Harry and Meghan will be in Australia within just weeks of King Charles’ trip to the United States.The Sussexes last travelled to Australia in 2018 in an official royal capacity: two years before they quit their royal duties. The trip came just months after the pair married in Windsor, with the couple announcing that they were pregnant with their first child just before they arrived in Australia.Their 16-day royal tour seven years ago took them to Sydney, Melbourne and the rural town of Dubbo, before they also travelled to Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand.News of their trip to Australia comes just weeks after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex completed a pseudo-royal trip to Jordan. The couple spent two days in the Middle East after being invited by the World Health Organisation’s director-general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.The purpose of Harry and Meghan’s trip was to learn more about the humanitarian effort to support the health and wellbeing of Syrians and Palestinians who have sought sanctuary in the country.On the first day of their overseas visit, the Duke and Duchess watched a music class at the QuestScope youth centre at Za'atari refugee camp near Mafraq, and took part in a football kickabout where Meghan was left with bragging rights when she scored a penalty and her husband’s shot was saved when they joined Syrian children at a refugee camp.Afterwards, Harry and Meghan visited the Specialty Hospital in Amman where they talked to doctors looking after medical evacuees. There they met 14-year-old Maria from Gaza, who had sustained severe burns on her right leg and foot, with Meghan smiling as she offered her a comforting hand.On the second day of their whirlwind trip, Harry and Meghan visited the headquarters of the World Central Kitchen, where it co-ordinates and deploys a million hot meals across Gaza every day. World Central Kitchen was the first philanthropic partnership established by Harry and Meghan through Archewell, and they remain active supporters of the organisation.Philip Hall, British Ambassador to Jordan, thanked the Sussexes for travelling to the Middle East, saying on the first day of their trip: “So I would simply say thank you very much indeed for coming. Your visit, your support, your appreciation of the efforts that the United Nations, including of course, the World Health Organisation, the government of Jordan and others, are making here is enormously appreciated.
