Chess player in Kerry sets new record of 78 simultaneous games in ‘greatest challenge’ of his life

Photo by Fergus Dennehy.Chatting to Yunis Barudi ahead of his marathon chess fundraiser up at the MTU in Tralee on Saturday morning, he, quite understandably, admitted to feeling just a little stress and nerves ahead of what was going to be a very long day for the talented Ukrainian chess player.It’s certainly not every day that you have to prepare yourself to play what turned out to be 78 games of chess simultaneously, all in the name of breaking a national record for the number of simultaneous chess players, a record that had stood since 1977, nearly 50 years ago.
