WATCH: The Simpsons share conclusion of age-old couch gag
The Simpsons is celebrating a huge milestone, and has done so by answering an age-old question fans have regarding the long-running intro.
The legendary show aired its record 800th episode on Sunday night (February 15) as part of a double-bill which brought the 37th season to a conclusion.
The most recent season saw Marge and Lisa bond over 90s show Keagan’s Pond, while Homer launches a ‘crumbless’ cracker business with Kirk Van Houten.

Fans and viewers were left shocked during the seventh episode of the season when church organist Alice Glick was written off.
In Sashes to Sashes, Alice keeled over and died in the middle of Reverend Lovejoy’s sermon, and was later honoured with a memorial service at Springfield Elementary.
Executive producer Tim Long confirmed to People that the staple character was ‘dead as a doornail.’

He said: ‘In a sense, Alice the organist will live forever, through the beautiful music she made, but in another, more important sense, yep she’s dead as a doornail.’
Guess Who’s Coming to Skinner, the 800th episode, aired over the weekend with Kieran Culkin among the guest stars for the episode which saw school principal, Seymour Skinner, discovering a young boy living in the school library.
While the show itself earned positive reviews, it was actually the intro which proved a major talking point as an age-old question was finally answered.

The Simpsons intro has always been a beloved classic, with the members of the family seen roaming around town as they make their way back to 10 Evergreen Terrace.
Lisa departs music class, while Bart is seen on his skateboard, but it’s really Marge and Homer that highlight the shock factor — with the intro concluding with Marge ramming her husband with her car before they all make it onto the sitting room couch.

‘How are you just sitting there?’ he rages, ‘Your mom hit me with her car. She smashed me through a solid oak door. How could you not see me int he garage? I was running away and screaming in terror.
‘There’s wood everywhere in me?’
As the opening credits get underway, Homer can be heard wondering: ‘Why the hell was Maggie in the front seat?’
The clip was shared to X by pop culture account DiscussingFilm with fans weighing in on the conclusion of the age-old gag.
One wrote: ‘This is such a family guy style gag.’
Another pointed out that Marge was ‘on the flip phone’ during the collision, while another noted that Homer’s voice sounded different.
‘Show’s so old that Homer sounds just like Grampa,’ another shared, while a sixth person echoed: ‘Damn Homer sounds like Abe now.’
