Envision Announces Kindness Awards Winners
Envisage Kindness competition judges were unanimous in their choice of this image as the overall winner. “This image is a powerful illustration of kindness in the form of community support and care,” they commented. “The way that people from the neighbourhood came together to put out a house fire is moving, and in the midst of the urgency of the moment, the image is artfully captured and timed. We can see the collaboration and feel the circular movement of this team effort in the photograph, including the buckets of water being filled and passed upwards as well as a bucket captured in mid-air in the background as it’s tossed down to the people waiting to refill it below.”
Joselito Arceta, also from The Philippines, was chosen as the Non-Profit Honouree, picking up a $500 prize for his efforts. “People help the little sea turtles to come out of their shells because they hatch too late,” he says. “The locals here in Labac Naic Cavite formed an organisation to protect sea turtles. They patrol their shore line to find where they’re laying their eggs, then they put them in their hatchery facility to save them from poachers in the wild. Sea turtles are in danger of extinction, so they help them reproduce and release them into the wild.”
The judges felt that the gentle tenderness of the hands helping the sea turtle to emerge from its shell transmits a deep feeling of care in this well-framed image. The featured non-profit organisation’s important mission and work, and the community-run aspect of it, also came across as worthy of recognition.
Acknowledging AI
Interestingly there was also a dedicated section in the competition for AI Inner Visions, and the $250 prize here was won by MD Sabbir with a striking shot entitled ‘The light we grow.’ In this surreal environmental portrait, a pair of hands sculpted from rich, textured soil cradle a glowing, bioluminescent sapling. Its roots and surrounding mycelial networks pulse with warm light, illuminating the dark earth like living veins beneath the surface. Meanwhile hyper-detailed textures highlight the relationship between human touch, soil and life, evoking themes of stewardship, regeneration, and the quiet power of nurturing. The image stands as a visual metaphor for growth, both ecological and deeply personal.
