Gemma Atkinson reveals men said her accent made her unattractive
Gemma Atkinson has told how she has received messages from 'snide' men on social media who claimed her Mancunian accent made her unattractive.The former Hollyoaks actress, 41, hails from Bury, Greater Manchester, and lives in the city with her Strictly dancer partner Gorka Marquez, 35, and their two children Mia, six, and Thiago, three. On this week's episode of their podcast Lost in Translation, Gemma said: 'People used to message me and say, "You're really really fit until you start talking but we just can't deal with your accent". 'And I used to think, "Well you're not fit with or without talking". I used to think, "How snide. You've not even spoken and you're not attractive".' Spanish dancer Gorka sweetly admitted Gemma's accent is one of is favourite things about the soap star, adding: 'I love it. I find it very cute when you speak like that. It's one of the things that attracts me to you.'The presenter then jokingly responded: 'I'm glad that you find it attractive, because that's all that matters right. You and Tom Hardy, no one else needs to.' Gemma previously revealed the couple wish to wait until their son is a bit older to officially tie the knot as they want him to play a part in the big day.Speaking to the Daily Express, she shared the details: 'We've toyed about doing it in Spain, so his family can come, and we've even thought about doing it in a registry office or a hotel in Manchester, just the two of us, and then have a big party after.'But I think now we want to wait until Thiago is a bit older, so maybe next year or the year after, as he's only two.'If he's a bit older, he could be involved in it, which would be really nice.'Back in 2022 Gemma revealed she had postponed her wedding to Gorka due to both of their busy schedules - after saying she'd rather try for another baby than plan lavish nuptials.She told New magazine: 'Gorka is literally on tour all of this year. We've only got four days off together.'He's got the two Strictly tours back to back, and then he'll be going on Strictly in the autumn. We don't even have a minute to sit down and begin making plans!' However The Sun reported it has been cancelled after two series.A spokesperson for UKTV - which owns U&W, the channel the pair's series aired on - said: 'It's been a privilege to make two series of Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind the Lens with Two Rivers Media.'Gemma and Gorka are both very busy with other projects at the moment, so at this time, there are no current plans for another series, but we look forward to working with them again soon.'The couple have been through their fair share of ups and down, and who hit a 'rough patch' in 2023 when Gorka was unable to get home during the final six weeks of Strictly Come Dancing, despite being voted out in week three.The dancer has now signed up as a judge on the Spanish version of Strictly, Bailando con las Estrellas, which will see him spend a lot of time in Madrid for filming.As the Spanish dancer jetted across Europe for his new role, Gemma had been caring for their children, with a source telling The Mirror she has 'effectively raising two kids by herself.'The insider added: 'Gemma knows how important Gorka's work is to him and goes above and beyond to be supportive but she found it challenging when he wasn't able to travel back to Manchester to spend time with her and the kids, even when he'd been voted off last year's series.'
