Five people rescued after vehicles trapped in flood water in two separate incidents across NI

In one incident in Co Down this afternoon, two people were rescued and their car towed after getting trapped.Emergency services including the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended the incident on Caugheys Road in the Dromore area.Police confirmed the car involved was stuck in water and it is understood a local farmer in the area came to the assistance of the vehicle and those inside and helped tow it out.No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.Firefighters also attended the scene, with a spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service saying: “Firefighters were called to reports of a water rescue incident on Caughey’s Road, Dromore."Firefighters assisted one casualty to safety where they were assessed by NIAS. Firefighters left the scene at 2.54pm.”The PSNI confirmed the road has been closed in both directions as a result of flooding with road users advised to seek an alternative route.A NIAS spokesperson said: “The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 14:23 on Friday, 23rd January, following reports of an incident in the Caugheys Road, Dromore area.News Catch Up - Thursday 22 January “NIAS dispatched one emergency ambulance, one HART Team and a paramedic to the scene.“No one was taken from the scene.”Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Tandragee in the early hours of Friday morning three people were rescued after NIFRS and the PSNI attended.A spokesperson from NIFRS said two appliances attended the incident on the Markethill Road at around 5.09am."Firefighters were called to reports of a water rescue incident on Markethill Road, Tandragee, Portadown."Firefighters rescued three casualties from two vehicles using specialist rescue equipment. The incident was handed over to the PSNI and Firefighters left the scene at 5.58am.”A PSNI spokesperson added: “The Markethill Road in Tandragee is closed due to flooding. The closure is in place close to the junction of Cooley Hill, one car is currently stranded in the water.“A second vehicle also became stranded, minutes after the line was issued. The road remains closed due to the flooding.”It comes in the wake of a deluge of rain on Thursday and a yellow weather warning which was issued.The Met Office said 15 to 25 mm was likely to fall widely, with 30 to 40 mm possible in a few spots, mainly on high ground.
