Netflix's New Certified Fresh Action Thriller That "Hooks You From the Start" Becomes a Global Sensation
Netflix just dropped one of its best action thrillers yet, and it's already a global sensation on streaming. The film features an all-star cast, including one of Hollywood's most beloved duos: Ben Affleck and Matt Damon (unfortunately, it's not Good Will Hunting 2: Hunting Season), with a tremendous supporting cast. The film has only just dropped on streaming, but audiences and critics can't stop singing the praises of the new action thriller. If you've been keeping up with Netflix's new releases, then you know we're talking about The Rip. The Rip is now streaming on Netflix, and it's already shot to the top of the streamer's weekly chart. The Rip is currently the number one movie on the platform globally, just three days (at the time of writing) after it was released on the platform. The movie was directed by Joe Carnahan, who co-wrote the script with Michael McGrale. Alongside Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, the movie also stars Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Sasha Cale, Kyle Chandler, Scott Adkins, and Nestor Carbonell. Damon and Affleck star as two Miami cops who, along with several of their partners, discover a huge stash of criminal cash. Deciding to keep the money for themselves, the group soon learns who can and who can't be trusted when a life-changing amount of money is on the line. The official synopsis reads:
"Upon discovering millions in cash in a derelict stash house, trust among a team of Miami cops begins to fray. As outside forces learn about the size of the seizure, everything is called into question — including who they can rely on."

The Rip isn't just popular in terms of viewing figures; it also scored strong reviews from both audiences and critics following its release. The Rip is Certified Fresh at 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences scored the movie slightly harsher, although it still holds a decent 70% rating. While it's far from a perfect movie, audiences were quick to praise the timeless chemistry between Affleck and Damon, like one user, who wrote, "This was a thrilling film. As a guy who doesn’t like true crime stuff, I really enjoyed this film. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s performances were Oscar-worthy. I definitely recommend this movie to people who love true crime." Another user didn't hold back with their positive opinion, gushing over the movie by saying:
"This is a gritty, thriller that hooks you from the start. What begins as routine bust spirals into suspicion, betrayal, and raw temptation that tests their lifelong friendship. Every tense glance and exchange carries the weight of history as trust slowly cracks. The story is straightforward yet layered with moral gray areas that make you ask: 'What would I do?'"
With The Rip being such a success, the many who enjoyed the film are wondering whether Matt Damon and Ben Affleck will return for a potential sequel. At the time of writing, The Rip 2 hasn't been confirmed. Some are skeptical about the movie needing a sequel, as the movie had a succinct and well-rounded ending. However, many of us will never say no to seeing more from Damon and Affleck on screen together. If The Rip is to be given a sequel, expect an announcement from Netflix sooner rather than later.
