Brits hit with chilling conscription warning as the UK 'sleepwalks' into WW3 with Russia

The UK is sleepwalking into a shadow war with Russia, a defence expert has warned, as concerns mount that cyber attacks, sabotage and economic disruption could strike Britain within years. The expert has issued a chilling warning to the British public noting the UK's lack of national service in the form of conscription is a serious national security problem. Former Conservative MP Tobias Ellwood has sounded the alarm and said the UK could "easily be at war with Russia in the next five years".The defence specialist highlighted right across Europe, numerous nations are reconsidering national service or have brought it back in response to escalating security worries surrounding Russia's activities. He argues this alone serves as "a deterrent" but the UK, which has no obligation or blueprint to bring in conscription, finds itself in a "naïve place".For the time being, Britain's emphasis remains on volunteers, reserves and schemes to strengthen defence capabilities, reports the Express.Urging Britons to build up their stockpiles, Mr Ellwood maintains Britain has failed to recognise that Russia is already waging a grey-zone conflict against us. Mr Ellwood said: "We are still in a naive place because we have failed to admit that Russia is already in a grayzone war with us."We are vulnerable as a society in terms of our national infrastructure, cybersecurity, cyber attacks, and disinformation. We need people ready to bolster stockpiles of artillery shells and things like that."Countries like Finland have people ready to be called up at a moment's notice, and that in itself is a deterrent because Russia knows that they have a small army, but at a moment can mobilise a powerful capability."A number of European nations continue to maintain conscription systems, especially those positioned near Russia's borders. Finland, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia all mandate military service for men, while allowing women to serve voluntarily, as a cornerstone of their national defence policies.Sweden and Norway have implemented selective, gender-neutral conscription programmes, while Austria, Greece and Cyprus continue to enforce compulsory service for male citizens.Mr Ellwood warns the danger he foresees involves Russia launching attacks on crucial infrastructure, including Heathrow Airport, Britain's most congested aviation hub.He said: "I think in the next 5 years, easily, we will be at war with Russia. A lot of this will be a grayzone war with skirmishes and incidents at sea. A lot of this will be economic sabotage to cause hardship in the UK."Drone attacks, espionage, sabotage of our railways. Heathrow Airport going down for a couple of days. This is the kind of thing it will be."
