The Pitt Season 2's Dr. Collins Replacement Continues A Worrying Robby Trend
Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for The Pitt season 2, episode 2. The Pitt season 2 may not feature Dr. Collins, but another character is joining the cast who appears to have sparked Dr. Robby's interest. The Pitt is one of the most authentic medical drama shows on TV, with a unique perspective that immerses the audience in a single day of the life of an emergency doctor. And while this rules out some of the tropes and inconsistencies that are so prevalent in other medical shows, there are some elements of the genre that appear to have carried over. Namely, the drama between colleagues, and the potential sparks for romantic interest as they get to know each other more intimately in the workplace. In season 1, Dr. Robby had a rocky romantic past with Dr. Collins, which was revealed throughout the series in small moments. While the pair were on good terms by the end of season 1, their romantic connection remained in the past, and Dr. Collins has moved to a new hospital by season 2. But, Dr. Robby appears to have a new connection blooming 10 months later in season 2.

Dr. Robby's romantic history is very lightly touched upon in The Pitt, but we have already been informed of a number of relationships that ended up falling apart for whatever reason. The mother of Jake Malloy was connected with Robby for some time, at least enough for him to develop an emotional connection to Jake, whom he treats like a son. Then, of course, there is Heather Collins, but their relationship appears to have ended in a less friendly way, despite the pair ultimately finding closure. Now, just a short 10 months after the end of season 1, Dr. Robby appears to have found a new spark with someone else in the hospital, Noelle Hastings.
The Pitt Has Focused On How Difficult Robby's Relationships Are

As much as Dr. Robby is a good man and someone who feels deep emotional connections to patients and the staff in his department, his efforts at finding love have been less favorable. Dr. Robby appears to have challenges with commitment, communication, and conflict in a romantic setting, despite excelling at these same issues in his day job. As much as he had a strong bond with Jake after his breakup with his mother, the latter relationship appears to have little to no contact between him and Jake's mother. Likewise, in his relationship with Collins, Robby failed to address deep-seated issues in their relationship, which led to a budding romance becoming rotten. Unfortunately, dating people from work is also often a bad idea and could lead to more trouble, as was seen in the tension between Robby and Collins. But that hasn't stopped Robby from sparking up a new connection at work with an administrative nurse who oversees overcrowding issues at the PTMH.
Robby Doesn't Seem Ready For A Real Relationship

Beyond Robby's unfortunate track record when it comes to love, it doesn't make a lot of sense for him to start up a new relationship right now. For one thing, Robby is about to embark on a three-month sabbatical, which will take him on a road trip far from home. Not exactly a great way to start a new relationship. Even if Robby and Hastings somehow manage to overcome this initial momentous roadblock to their romance, Robby has some issues he needs to get worked out before he can commit to something serious. Robby's mental health isn't in the best place, as seen clearly in The Pitt season 1, and he should try to work out his own problems before starting a new relationship. Of course, many people find each other in their darkest hours, and it can be a means of bringing them closer together. So, despite the roadblocks for Robby to find love, there is a chance that he could make this work with Hastings.

There is a chance that Robby can open himself up emotionally to Hastings in order to build a strong relationship, but it won't be easy. Robby has a lot of ghosts in his past that he is struggling to move past, and for a relationship to really work, both parties need to be willing to be open and honest with each other.
Hastings seems interested, and Robby clearly reciprocates the interest, to the point that the pair may be in the early stages of a new relationship or working up to a first date. But that initial sense of being smitten can be transient, and there needs to be a deeper connection to give the relationship a foundation that will see it last. If Robby can be honest and confront the things that haunt him, leaning on Hastings for support, and Hastings can meet Robby where he is and provide that support, then they could have a strong chance of making it work. Hopefully, more of this connection will be explored in The Pitt season 2 before Robby sets off on his sabbatical.
