Ryanair warns passengers about banned €4 airport item that can't go on flights
With wintry conditions continuing to batter Ireland, countless households are already fantasising about a sun-soaked escape.Ryanair, the budget carrier beloved by holidaymakers, is once more highlighting a minor yet frequently missed regulation that could take travellers by surprise, particularly moments before departure. Most passengers are well-versed in the typical travel requirements - including luggage allowances, restrictions on liquids and security protocols - yet certain airline regulations continue to surprise even experienced travellers. One particular regulation concerns a popular airport item, usually priced at approximately €4, which Ryanair prohibits onboard. Following security clearance and perusing duty free offerings, numerous passengers head straight for refreshments ahead of their departure. For those catching early flights, one purchase has become practically indispensable - a takeaway coffee or hot beverage. However, if you're intending to bring that caffeinated drink aboard a Ryanair service, you'll need to reconsider. The carrier has reminded travellers that hot beverages are prohibited during the boarding process for safety reasons. A Ryanair spokesperson stated: "In the interest of safety we cannot allow passengers to board the plane with hot drinks or consume their own alcohol during the flight.", reports the Irish Mirror. The primary concern centres on the danger of spillages, especially throughout the boarding procedure. Scalding liquids could present a burn hazard to travellers or staff if knocked over, particularly within the confined, congested walkways of an aeroplane.Ryanair isn't the only carrier with this rule. Aer Lingus has a similar policy in place. When a passenger questioned on social media why takeaway coffee was prohibited, an airline representative responded: "We ask people not to bring hot drinks onboard when boarding as a safety precaution. Apologies for any disappointment."Travellers can still buy hot beverages once airborne. Cold beverages and food items are permitted, provided they comply with airport security requirements.Additionally, any alcohol bought in duty free must stay sealed throughout a Ryanair flight and consuming your own alcohol is prohibited.Join our Dublin Live breaking news service on WhatsApp. Click this link to receive your daily dose of Dublin Live content.
