Bridgerton star joins cast of new film about groundbreaking Scottish icon
Bridgerton Season 4 official Netflix trailer Bridgerton's Luke Thompson has been confirmed as the latest addition to the cast of a highly anticipated British film brimming with recognisable faces.Elsinore, directed by Simon Stone and currently in production, is a biopic about the life of renowned Scottish actor Ian Charleson.Charleson, celebrated for his roles in Chariots of Fire and Gandhi, is the focus of the film which explores his preparation for his final performance as Hamlet after being diagnosed with HIV in 1986.Tragically, he passed away at the age of 40 in January 1990, a mere eight weeks following his last appearance at the Olivier Theatre.The pioneering actor was the first UK celebrity whose death was publicly attributed to AIDS, a disclosure he requested in order to raise awareness about the disease, reports the Express.Andrew Scott, known for his role in Wake Up Dead Man, was previously announced to be portraying Charleson, with Olivia Colman from The Night Manager also headlining the cast.Deadline has now confirmed that Bridgerton's Thompson has joined Elsinore in a supporting role, adding to an impressive line-up of British talent.Other notable cast members include Doctor Who and Wednesday actress Billie Piper, Johnny Flynn from Ripley, Monica Dolan of Mr Bates Vs The Post Office fame, and Juliet Stevenson, best known for her role in Bend It Like Beckham.Joining the film's cast are Joe Locke of Heartstopper and Agatha All Along fame, Adeel Akhtar from Sherwood, Matthew Beard known for The Testament of Ann Lee, David Dawson of The Last Kingdom, Kadiff Kirwan from Slow Horses, Dickie Beau who starred in Bohemian Rhapsody and Peter Mullan from Outlander: Blood of My Blood.Currently, filming is underway at various locations across the UK. In other news, Thompson is set to become the fourth male lead in Netflix's popular romantic drama Bridgerton, starring opposite newcomer Yerin Ha.Since the first season, he has been portraying Benedict, the second eldest Bridgerton son, and now steps into the limelight alongside Ha as the enigmatic Lady in Silver.Their paths intersect at a masquerade ball where Benedict is immediately captivated. However, their love story faces challenges as Benedict's object of affection turns out to be Sophie Baek, a modest servant for the ton's newest family.Speaking about what lies ahead on Netflix's Tudum, Thompson revealed: "The scripts that Jess [Brownell, showrunner] and her team have come up with are dynamite. They're really, really, really exciting."The storyline is a bit of a twist on Cinderella.
